Assistant Sommelier
Your primary role as an Assistant Sommelier with Beachcomber will be to provide guests with advice and guidance on wine pairings to help them make the right choice to suit their taste preferences and meal selection. You will work closely with the Sommelier to enrich your wine knowledge and offer guests a unique food and wine pairing experience.
Key responsibilities:
• Extend a warm welcome and advise guests on wine choices based on their taste preferences and meal selection.
• Set up and maintain the wine cellar, ensuring it is well-stocked to offer a variety of quality wines.
• Arrange wine tastings for guests upon request, providing relevant information on the different grape varieties and wine-growing regions.
• Work closely with the kitchen team to create harmonious and innovative food and wine pairings.
• Address guests’ queries about the specific characteristics of the different wines available.
• Contribute to training and mentoring waiters and waiting staff on the basic principles of the sommelier profession.
• Place orders and manage the relationship with wine suppliers.
• Participate in wine-related competitions or events to develop your knowledge and expertise.
Qualifications and skills:
• Extensive sommelier experience with in-depth knowledge of wines and food pairings.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills for a professional and pleasant interaction with guests.
• Team player with the ability to work closely with kitchen and waiting staff for a complete dining experience.
• A highly-developed sense of taste and smell to identify and describe wine characteristics.
• Ability to work within a challenging environment and handle stressful situations effectively.
• Knowledge of the basic principles of wine cellar management and wine storage.
• Fluency in English and French, with the ability to provide advice to guests in both languages.
